Bitcoin Stabilizes Near $84,000 Amid Rising U.S. Treasury Yields

Bitcoin remained steady around $84,000 as it approached the weekend, trading at $83,981.2, which reflects a slight decline of 0.27% for the day. The cryptocurrency had experienced fluctuations earlier in the week, briefly nearing $85,000 before dropping below $83,000. The primary factor influencing Bitcoin's price was the bond market, where the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield surpassed 5.2%, marking its highest level since 2007. This increase in yields has made interest-bearing assets more attractive, thereby exerting pressure on Bitcoin and other risk assets.

Despite the challenges posed by rising bond yields, institutional demand for Bitcoin provided some support. U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds saw inflows of approximately $2.65 billion over five consecutive sessions, with around $347 million coming in on Wednesday alone. Major players such as BlackRock's IBIT and Fidelity's FBTC were significant contributors to these inflows. Additionally, Strategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, is looking to enhance its Bitcoin-linked financing model by proposing daily dividend accruals for its preferred stocks, which could improve liquidity and demand for these securities.

Regulatory developments have created a mixed environment for the cryptocurrency market. Hester Peirce, a prominent SEC Commissioner known for advocating clearer cryptocurrency regulations, is set to leave the agency on October 2. Her departure follows a setback in Washington, where the Senate did not advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. Furthermore, the Blockchain Association is undergoing leadership changes, with former CEO Kristin Smith returning as interim leader. Meanwhile, Germany's proposed cryptocurrency tax reforms have sparked concerns, particularly regarding a new assessment method that could impose taxes based on a percentage of crypto sale proceeds when acquisition costs are unclear. This has drawn criticism from industry figures, including Circle executive Patrick Hansen.

As the weekend approaches, Bitcoin's performance is being shaped by strong institutional inflows and ongoing corporate adoption, counterbalanced by elevated bond yields and persistent regulatory uncertainties. In the broader cryptocurrency market, other major cryptocurrencies such as Ether, XRP, and Solana also saw slight gains, indicating a generally positive trend as the week concludes.
