Bitcoin Volatility Index Perpetual Contracts Launched on Hyperliquid
The Bitcoin Volatility Index (BVIV), commonly known as the Bitcoin VIX, has launched its perpetual contract on Hyperliquid, an on-chain exchange, allowing traders to engage in direct speculation on Bitcoin's price volatility. This new offering enables participants to bet on the magnitude of price fluctuations over the next 30 days, mirroring the functionality of the Chicago Board Options Exchange's VIX index for the S&P 500.
The BVIV perpetual contract utilizes USDC as both collateral and pricing asset, offering traders leverage of up to 5x. This innovative product eliminates the need for complex options strategies, making it more accessible for traders looking to hedge against or speculate on volatility in the cryptocurrency market. The Seda oracle infrastructure plays a crucial role in linking the Volmex index to the Markets exchange on-chain.
Cole Kennelly, founder and CEO of Volmex Labs, emphasized that the introduction of the BVIV index perpetual contract provides a valuable tool for crypto traders. This launch represents a collaboration between Hyperliquid, Volmex, and Perps.inc, marking the first deployment of their joint efforts and the inaugural access of the Volmex Bitcoin Volatility Index to an on-chain perpetual contract market. Hyperliquid is recognized as the largest decentralized perpetual contract exchange globally, boasting an average daily trading volume in the billions and a fully diluted valuation exceeding $90 billion.
