Brazil's CSD BR Collaborates with Ripple to Integrate Securities Records on XRP Ledger
CSD BR, Brazil's central securities depository managing over BRL 22 trillion in assets, has partnered with Ripple to integrate securities ownership data onto the XRP Ledger. This initiative marks a significant advancement in traditional finance infrastructure, as it involves the actual recording of fund shares from BTG Pactual, one of Latin America's largest investment banks, on a public blockchain.
The integration will not alter existing investor processes or legal frameworks, as CSD BR will continue to serve as the official source for all registrations and settlements. This mirroring approach allows for the secure handling of asset data while maintaining compliance with Brazil's regulatory environment, overseen by the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários (CVM) and the Banco Central do Brasil (BCB).
The initial phase of the project utilizes Ripple's Multi-Purpose Token standard, which enhances the XRP Ledger's capability to manage various asset types. Future phases may include more ambitious features such as native asset issuance and peer-to-peer trading, potentially expanding into Brazilian real estate and agribusiness receivables certificates. This partnership is designed to operate within existing regulations, reflecting a cautious yet innovative approach to integrating blockchain technology in financial markets.
