Circle Launches StableFX on Arc Mainnet for Continuous Onchain Foreign Exchange Trading

Circle has officially launched StableFX, its onchain foreign exchange platform, on the Arc Layer 1 blockchain, enabling 24/7 currency trading. This launch comes just six days after the Arc mainnet went live on September 16, 2026. StableFX allows institutional investors to swap between over 20 fully reserved stablecoins with atomic payment-versus-payment settlement, ensuring that both sides of a trade settle simultaneously, thus eliminating settlement risk.

The global foreign exchange market, which sees approximately $10 trillion in daily transactions, has traditionally relied on infrastructure that is limited by banking hours and requires multiple bilateral agreements. StableFX aims to streamline this process by pairing offchain request-for-quote pricing with onchain settlement, allowing trades to be executed without the need for trust in counterparties during the settlement window. This innovation is expected to significantly reduce costs and improve efficiency for institutions engaged in currency trading.

The Arc mainnet has attracted over 100 institutional participants, including major firms like BlackRock and Visa, indicating a strong interest from mainstream finance in leveraging blockchain technology for foreign exchange operations. The platform's use of USDC for transaction fees and its capability for sub-second finality further enhance its appeal, as traditional systems often take much longer to confirm transactions. Payment providers and fintech firms are among the early adopters of StableFX, recognizing the potential for reduced foreign exchange costs in their operations.
