Corporate Bitcoin Purchases Decline in Q3 2026 Amid Market Adjustments

In the third quarter of 2026, the purchasing activity of Bitcoin by treasury companies experienced a significant slowdown, according to analysis from Bitwise Research. The net increase for treasury companies was recorded at 1,666 BTC, a stark decline from the 83,901 BTC purchased in the second quarter. Similarly, other publicly listed companies saw their net Bitcoin purchases drop to 5,617 BTC from 45,725 BTC in the previous quarter.

Ryan Rasmussen, the Research Director at Bitwise, anticipates that corporate purchases of Bitcoin may pick up again within the current year. However, this resurgence is expected to be cautious, as companies are likely to focus on more established firms that demonstrate scale, liquidity, and a solid track record.

Jag Kooner, the Derivatives Director at Bitfinex, noted that if the stock prices of treasury companies exceed the value of their Bitcoin holdings, it could incentivize a resumption of stock purchases. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the chances of returning to the previous year's trend of indiscriminate financing are low, suggesting a more selective approach in future investments.
