FBI Reports $1.7 Billion Loss from Fraud Center; 28 Arrested in West Africa Operation

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has disclosed that losses linked to a fraudulent scam center have reached approximately 1.7 billion USD. This alarming figure highlights the scale of financial crimes being perpetrated through online platforms.

In a related effort, a week-long coordinated law enforcement operation in West Africa led to the arrest of 28 individuals suspected of involvement in these scams. The operation, supported by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), also resulted in the removal of over 3.7 million online accounts, pages, and groups associated with fraudulent activities.

Additionally, authorities identified more than 11 million USD in funds that may be subject to freezing as part of ongoing investigations. This operation underscores the international collaboration needed to combat cybercrime and protect potential victims from financial fraud.
