SEC Moves to Delist Bitwise Dogecoin ETF as Liquidation Process Advances

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a Form 25 to delist the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF, a formal step following Bitwise Investment Advisers' announcement to liquidate the fund. This decision comes after a significant decline in assets, with the ETF's assets under management dropping from an initial $2.5 million at launch to approximately $725,870 by early October 2026.

Launched on November 26, 2025, the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF, trading under the ticker BWOW, initially attracted interest with a trading volume of about $3 million in its first week. However, investor enthusiasm waned, leading to net outflows exceeding $1.3 million since its inception. By September 2026, trading volume had plummeted to just $51,480, highlighting a lack of sustained interest in the product.

Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley expressed disappointment in the fund's performance, attributing it to a disconnect between traditional ETF investors and Dogecoin enthusiasts. The fund's expense ratio of 0.34% proved insufficient to cover operational costs given the low asset base. The final trading day for BWOW is scheduled for October 14, 2026, with cash distributions to investors expected around October 22, 2026.
