Monetary Authority of Singapore Places Hyperliquid on Investor Alert List

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has added Hyperliquid to its Investor Alert List, expressing significant concerns regarding decentralized crypto products, particularly those involving high leverage. This decision, made on June 26, 2026, highlights MAS's unease with platforms that operate outside its regulatory oversight, as Hyperliquid is not licensed by the authority despite being registered in Singapore.

Hyperliquid, operated by Hyperliquid Labs, offers perpetual futures, a type of derivative that allows traders to speculate on asset prices without holding the underlying assets. These products, often referred to as 'perps,' have been criticized by consumer advocates as highly risky, especially when leveraged. MAS has drawn a clear distinction between the institutional perpetual futures available on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) and those offered by Hyperliquid, emphasizing that the regulatory framework is designed to protect consumers from speculative risks.

MAS continues to promote tokenization and institutional activities within the digital asset sector while aiming to mitigate risks associated with retail trading. The authority's recent actions may indicate a shift towards a more cautious regulatory approach, which could influence how decentralized trading platforms are viewed globally. The alert serves as a warning to investors and may affect Hyperliquid's reputation among compliance teams and institutional partners.
