OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Astra, Marking a Milestone in AI Development
OpenAI has officially launched GPT-6 Astra, which President Greg Brockman described as a significant advancement in artificial intelligence capabilities. During a press conference, Brockman stated that the model meets the criteria for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), suggesting it can perform reasoning tasks comparable to or exceeding those of humans. He proclaimed, 'Welcome to the era of AGI.'
GPT-6 Astra is notable for being the first model to surpass a critical threshold in OpenAI's internal danger capability scoring system, known as the Preparedness Framework. This model can autonomously identify previously unknown software vulnerabilities, termed zero-day vulnerabilities, and can chain them into attacks that operate in secure systems. In testing, Astra achieved a perfect score on the ExploitBench benchmark and successfully identified two new zero-day vulnerabilities during evaluations.
The launch of GPT-6 Astra also raises concerns regarding its monitoring, as OpenAI has indicated that the model is more challenging to supervise than its predecessors. This increased autonomy may complicate efforts to track its actions and ensure safe usage.
