PancakeSwap Proposes Significant Changes to Liquidity Provider Fees and CAKE Emissions

PancakeSwap, a leading decentralized exchange primarily operating on the BNB Chain, has introduced a proposal aimed at significantly increasing the share of trading fees allocated to liquidity providers (LPs). The plan, currently in the discussion stage, suggests that 88% of the trading fees from its v3 and Infinity pools would be directed to LPs, while the remaining fees would be routed to the protocol's treasury. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the attractiveness of providing liquidity on the platform.

In addition to the fee distribution changes, the proposal also includes a substantial reduction in CAKE token emissions, with a projected cut of approximately 69%. This follows earlier adjustments made in April 2025, which had already reduced daily emissions by about 44%. The cumulative effect of these changes has led to a net reduction in CAKE supply, which has decreased from around 392 million tokens in September 2023 to approximately 330 million tokens as of October 2026. PancakeSwap has reported a consistent trend of net burns over the past 37 months, indicating that more CAKE tokens have been destroyed than created during this period.

The proposed changes reflect a shift in PancakeSwap's approach to incentivizing liquidity provision, moving away from reliance on token emissions towards a model that emphasizes real trading fees. This aligns with trends observed on other platforms, where LPs can receive up to 90% of fees. The proposal aims to standardize a more generous fee distribution across PancakeSwap's offerings, potentially enhancing the platform's competitiveness in the decentralized finance space. As the proposal is still under discussion, the community's response and any subsequent governance votes will be crucial in determining its final implementation.
