Saylor Spoke About the State of the Bitcoin Market, Competition With AI, and Strategy’s Sales

      • Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor gave an interview to the press.
      • In it, he touched on a range of topics, including the company’s bitcoin sales.
      • According to him, Strategy can do this at any time, and the first sale was a “vaccine” for the market.
      • He also believes bitcoin will grow by 20%-30% annually.

Michael Saylor, co-founder of Strategy, the largest corporate holder of the first cryptocurrency, gave an interview to Bloomberg Crypto. In it, he shared his view on the state of the bitcoin market, defended the firm’s right to sell from its portfolio, and also touched on several other important topics.

Strategy Can Buy and Sell Bitcoins at Any Time

The firm’s first bitcoin sale was recorded in June 2026, although, according to filings, it took place in late May. Strategy sold 32 BTC at a price of $77,140.

In total, according to Saylor Tracker, the company sold 6,948 BTC from late May to mid-August 2026. Notably, most of these crypto assets were sold at prices between $59,000 and $64,000.

At the same time, the firm’s CEO Phong Le said that it was supposedly the right decision.

Only the first sale triggered a significant market reaction, because before that Saylor had repeatedly stated a hold strategy. Later, he changed his rhetoric, noting that this applied only to his own holdings, not the company as a whole.

Here’s how he sees the situation overall:

“Our company should be viewed as a structured finance vehicle. On any given day, we can buy or sell bitcoin. We can buy or sell dollars. We can issue shares, buy back MSTR from the market, and acquire or sell credit instruments like STRC.”

He said that giving up some of these capabilities would only reduce the company’s value.

“That’s why it’s critical for us to be able to transact in any asset pair, in any direction, and at any time. This summer, we enabled the company to freely buy and sell credit instruments, equities, and bitcoin. This was a major step forward for our investors and for all asset classes,” he concluded.

At the same time, Saylor believes the market’s reaction to the first sale was “overblown.” Subsequent transactions made it possible to “build resilience” to such operations.

“It’s important to understand that when you do something for the first time, it can trigger a painful reaction. But you need to get investors and the market as a whole used to the idea that the company will buy and sell assets based on shareholders’ interests. That’s how we can make the right decisions for bitcoin, credit instrument holders, and the company’s shareholders. These are normal growing pains. We’re becoming a more mature company,” Saylor said.

Meanwhile, the company’s co-founder believes the market is entering a bull phase, and Strategy, accordingly, will continue to grow its portfolio. At the same time, he does not rule out selling part of the assets later on, emphasizing that it depends on the current phase.

      Market Outlook Overall

“We believe we’re at the beginning of a bull market. We typically assess bitcoin’s position relative to the 200-week moving average. The price briefly dipped below that level and is now moving higher, forming a premium of about 25% to it. Previously, the headwinds were tight trade, foreign, and monetary policy. Now the situation is changing, and those obstacles are giving way to favorable conditions,” he noted.

Among the latter, Saylor cited progress on the regulatory front, crypto adoption by the banking sector, the development of securities tokenization, and the build-out of digital lending networks, which makes capital more accessible.

At the same time, he believes there are also certain headwinds in the market. Among them is competition with the AI sector for available liquidity.

However, in Saylor’s view, over the longer term this will benefit bitcoin. Investors are currently pouring money into the sector, and as the technology advances, it creates certain risks for traditional companies, he believes.

Because supply in the AI space is limited, and other public-market companies may suffer from the boom, the entrepreneur believes capital will flow into hedge assets, including bitcoin.

“I believe bitcoin should definitely return to six-figure levels and move above $100,000. Our long-term forecast calls for bitcoin to grow by 20% to 30% per year over the next 20 years. At the same time, the last 12 months have clearly been a correction period. I think we bottomed a little below $60,000, bounced off that level, and are now moving toward around $80,000. I believe the next move will be upward,” the businessman emphasized.

Saylor also shared several investment tips. In the short term, he is betting on money market funds, and in the long term — on bitcoin. If an investor needs something with higher returns, the entrepreneur recommended looking at proxy plays — Strategy and Strive shares.

“If you look at the period since August 2020, when we first bought bitcoin, its average annual growth has been about 38%. MSTR shares, which represent our company’s digital equity, have gained about 52% to 53% per year. The only stock I know of that performs better is NVIDIA. All the other companies in the “Magnificent Seven,” as well as the other largest constituents of the S&P 500, don’t come close to those figures. Bitcoin outperforms gold, and gold, in turn, outperforms the S&P 500,” he emphasized.

On the Failure of the CLARITY Act and the Outlook for Regulation

Recall that the procedural vote on the crypto market structure bill (CLARITY) in the U.S. Senate in September 2026 ended negatively. The bill did not advance further, and bitcoin reacted with a drop.

“Right now, we have regulators who are very supportive of digital assets. Within a week after the CLARITY Act’s progress was halted, we received positive guidance from the Treasury Department, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC),” Saylor noted.

According to him, the CLARITY Act would have legitimized the crypto sector in America, but the bill also contained “600 pages of restrictions.”

“When its progress was halted, those restrictions stopped being an immediate prospect. At the same time, the guidance published by regulators turned out to be significantly more favorable for the industry. That’s why the market is rising and bitcoin is appreciating,” the entrepreneur added.

In this context, Saylor is also not concerned about a change in administration. According to him, the more important factor is the quality of the product, technology, or service, which will help retain the audience.
