Pentagon Confirms Ongoing Restrictions on AI Company Anthropic

The U.S. Department of Defense has reaffirmed that restrictions on the artificial intelligence company Anthropic are still in place. This announcement contradicts earlier statements made by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, who indicated that the issues between the two parties had been resolved.

Emil Michael, the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, communicated via social media that Anthropic continues to be classified as a 'supply chain risk' within the defense industrial base. This classification highlights ongoing concerns regarding the potential misuse of the company's AI models, particularly in relation to cyberattacks.

Despite Raimondo's assertion that Anthropic had addressed long-standing issues from the Trump administration and improved its relationship with the government, the Pentagon's stance suggests that significant concerns remain regarding the company's operations and their implications for national security.
