Polymarket Introduces Perpetual Futures Trading with 20x Leverage

Polymarket has expanded its offerings by launching perpetual futures trading, allowing users to take leveraged positions of up to 20 times on various assets. This new feature includes major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as traditional assets like the S&P 500 index, oil, gold, and silver. The platform, known for its prediction markets, aims to enhance user engagement beyond simple binary bets.

The perpetual futures trading operates using pUSD, a stablecoin pegged to USDC on the Polygon network, with trades executed through an order book. The maximum leverage of 20x is available for select markets, while other assets are limited to 10x leverage. A maintenance margin of 2.5% is required for 20x markets, and positions may be liquidated if this threshold is not maintained.

Since its beta launch on April 21, 2026, Polymarket's perpetual futures platform has seen significant growth. By early September 2026, it reported approximately $51.56 million in open interest across 67 markets and a daily notional volume of around $99 million. Cumulative notional volume has surpassed $13.5 billion, with over 14,000 active traders and total value locked in pUSD exceeding $55 million.
