Report: Stablecoin remittance costs 84% lower than traditional methods

PANews reported on October 17, citing Cointelegraph, that the latest Q3 report from stablecoin payment network Borderless.xyz shows the median cost of sending a $200 remittance through stablecoin rails is only 1% (about $2), compared to 6.36% (about $12.72) for traditional remittances — making the stablecoin option roughly 84% cheaper. Savings are even more pronounced in emerging markets: in Sub-Saharan Africa, stablecoin remittance costs are 2.9% versus 8.46% for traditional methods; in Latin America, 1.25% versus 5.64%. For corporate payments, transferring $10,000 to the eurozone costs as little as $26 via stablecoins, while traditional bank wire transfers cost $135–150.

In addition, stablecoin payments settle faster: the median time on Brazil's PIX network is just 2 minutes, and Mexico's SPEI is 3 minutes, while traditional SWIFT transfers typically take until the next business day. The report notes that stablecoin transaction activity continues to grow, making it an increasingly important use case for cross-border payments.
