SilkBank Georgia Introduces Direct USDT Transactions in Mobile App

SilkBank, the first crypto-enabled bank in the Republic of Georgia, has launched a new feature allowing users to purchase and transfer Tether's USD₮ (USDT) directly through its mobile banking app. This service, which went live on September 21, 2026, is currently being offered with a promotional zero-commission rate on all USDT transactions, simplifying the process of acquiring stablecoins without the need for third-party exchanges or additional apps.

The integration of USD₮ into SilkBank's app enables users to buy the stablecoin and transfer it to other users seamlessly. This addition complements the bank's existing digital asset offerings, which include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and several other cryptocurrencies. SilkBank initially introduced its crypto trading capabilities in 2025, establishing itself as a pioneer in the Georgian banking sector for digital asset transactions.

Aleksandre Dghebuadze, SilkBank’s Crypto Product Owner, emphasized the utility of stablecoins in facilitating global transfers, positioning USD₮ not as a speculative investment but as a practical tool for moving funds across borders efficiently. The bank aims to attract users who may have been hesitant to engage with cryptocurrencies due to transaction costs, as traditional exchanges typically charge fees ranging from 0.1% to 1.5%.

In a broader context, Georgia is making strides in the digital asset space, with Tether announcing plans in May 2026 to issue a stablecoin pegged to the Georgian lari, potentially positioning the country as a leader in both government-endorsed and commercial stablecoin offerings. Despite the innovative features, early indicators suggest that Georgian consumers are still acclimating to the concept of stablecoin trading through their bank, as there has not been significant market movement following the launch.
