Trezor Declines to Exploit Ledger's Security Incident

Trezor, a prominent hardware wallet manufacturer, has publicly stated that it will not take advantage of a recent security incident involving its competitor, Ledger. The incident, which occurred between October 9 and 11, 2026, involved tampered Ledger devices sold by a Southeast Asian reseller, CryptoBilis. These compromised units led to significant financial losses, with estimates suggesting that between $86 million and $103 million was drained from various wallets, primarily in USDT on the Tron blockchain.

In response to the crisis, Trezor emphasized its commitment to user security and highlighted that there have been no reports of compromised devices from its own brand linked to CryptoBilis. The company also pointed out its ongoing collaboration with industry partners to enhance security measures, urging users to purchase devices through official channels and adhere to proper setup protocols to safeguard their funds.

Both Trezor and Ledger have faced security challenges in the past. Trezor recently disclosed a data breach involving its fulfillment partner, ShipMonk, which affected approximately 81,000 customers. Despite this, Trezor maintained that the integrity of its devices remained intact. The incident with Ledger underscores the need for standardized anti-tamper practices across the hardware wallet industry, as both companies navigate the complexities of maintaining user trust in their products.
