U.S. Senate Republican Party Releases Updated Clarity Act

The Republican Party of the United States Senate has unveiled an updated version of the Clarity Act, which incorporates changes resulting from negotiations that took place during the August recess. The revised bill maintains its ethical provisions and keeps the sections concerning the Bank Secrecy Act (BRCA) and stablecoin earnings unchanged.

Significant modifications in the updated bill include a requirement for non-decentralized decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols to register with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). This aligns with Section 10301 of the Banking Committee's portion of the legislation. Additionally, the provisions related to DeFi have been limited to spot or cash digital commodity trading, which appears to address concerns regarding blockchain-based prediction markets.

Furthermore, the updated Clarity Act clarifies the authority of credit unions to manage crypto assets, potentially expanding the role of these institutions in the evolving digital currency landscape.
