Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs Attract $2.6B in Strongest Weekly Performance Since October
Key Highlights
- Spot Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded funds in the United States saw $2.61 billion in combined inflows during a five-day trading period
- Bitcoin-focused funds accounted for approximately 73% of the total, bringing in $1.92 billion
- Ethereum ETFs contributed $697 million with positive flows across all five trading days
- BlackRock maintained market leadership, securing roughly 79% of Friday’s aggregate inflows
- Bitcoin surged past $76,000 throughout the week, recording approximately 18% gains within a two-day span
Exchange-traded funds tracking spot Bitcoin and Ether in the United States experienced their most robust combined performance since October 2025, accumulating $2.61 billion during the five trading sessions that concluded on August 21.
This impressive weekly showing completely reversed the prior week’s combined outflows of $391.96 million, representing a dramatic turnaround of roughly $3 billion.
Bitcoin Funds Dominate Weekly Inflows
Exchange-traded products focused on Bitcoin accumulated $1.92 billion throughout the week, with momentum accelerating daily. The surge initiated with $297 million on August 17, expanded to $517 million by August 19, and reached its zenith at $606 million on August 20 before moderating to $307 million during the concluding session.
The iShares Bitcoin Trust from BlackRock emerged as the dominant performer during each trading day. During the August 21 session exclusively, this fund captured $239 million in inflows, representing nearly 78% of that day’s aggregate total.
Since its initial launch, the iShares Bitcoin Trust has accumulated cumulative net inflows totaling $62.43 billion. Fidelity’s competing product recorded $30 million on the same trading day, pushing its cumulative total to $10.18 billion.
The collective net assets held by all U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs currently stand at $96.07 billion, representing 6.17% of Bitcoin’s entire market capitalization.
The weekly influx of $1.92 billion marks the strongest performance since October 2025, when these investment vehicles attracted $2.71 billion during one week and $3.24 billion in another separate period.
Ethereum Funds Demonstrate Robust Performance
Investment products tracking Ether accumulated $697 million during the identical five-session timeframe, marking their strongest weekly showing in recent months. Daily capital inflows escalated from $30 million on August 17 to $221 million by August 20, concluding with $185 million on August 21.
BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust commanded Friday’s trading with $151 million in inflows. Grayscale’s Ethereum Mini Trust secured second position with $11.5 million.
By session close, aggregate net assets across Ether ETFs totaled $14.30 billion, equivalent to 4.85% of Ethereum’s overall market capitalization.
The weekly aggregate surpassed the complete monthly total for July, when Ether-focused funds accumulated just $365 million.
Bitcoin‘s market value surged approximately 18% across a two-day period, successively breaching resistance levels at $65,000, $70,000, and $75,000 before exceeding $76,000 on August 21. Similarly, Ether recorded about 18% appreciation within a single 24-hour window, climbing above the $2,400 threshold.
According to Nick Ruck, Research Director at LVRG Research, these inflows would require additional confirmation across multiple periods before establishing a definitive long-term trend.
Market participants have begun reallocating capital toward alternative cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin Cash appreciated 31% on August 21, while Ethena recorded gains of 27%. Bitcoin’s market dominance maintained its position near 59.8%, while the Altcoin Season Index registered at 33 out of a possible 100.
BlackRock’s combined performance across both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs reached $390 million on Friday, accounting for approximately 79% of total inflows across both asset categories for the trading session.
