DP World to operate terminal at Bangladesh’s largest port

Dubai’s DP World has signed a 15-year concession to operate and maintain a container terminal at Bangladesh’s largest port, supporting the country’s expanding global trade.

The agreement with state-owned Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) forms part of a public-private partnership initiative agreed by the Bangladeshi and Dubai governments in 2019. It aims to improve the performance of the New Mooring Container Terminal and Overflow Container Yard, strengthening Bangladesh’s trade and logistics through better regional and global links.

The CPA will retain ownership of the terminal, DP World said in a statement.

Owned by the Dubai government, DP World will upgrade the terminal’s civil infrastructure and equipment, improve cargo-handling efficiency and support rising trade volumes.

Work will also focus on berth planning, yard management, equipment use, preventive maintenance, safety and sustainability.

      No financial details were released.

This week, DP World secured a 10-year extension to its concession to operate a multipurpose terminal in Angola, extending it to 2051. It also committed $90 million to expand the port of Luanda.

The global port operator invested 50 percent of its annual $3 billion capital allocation in the first half of 2026, supporting new capacity and trade across its portfolio in the UAE, the UK, India, Saudi Arabia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
