Eos Energy (EOSE) Stock Surges 12% on Major Google Energy Storage Deal in West Virginia
TLDR
- Eos Energy (EOSE) shares climbed 12% following the announcement of a major clean energy partnership with Google and MN8 Energy in West Virginia.
- The initiative integrates 86 MW of solar capacity, 10 MW/100 MWh of Eos’ proprietary Z3 zinc-based storage technology, and 70 MW/280 MWh of lithium-ion batteries.
- Google has committed to purchasing all power, capacity, and renewable energy credits produced by the facility.
- The partnership involves a capital commitment of up to $350 million and is projected to generate approximately 200 construction positions.
- This deployment marks Google’s inaugural use of Eos’ domestically-manufactured Z3 system and the maiden project stemming from the MN8-Eos Master Supply Agreement.
Shares of Eos Energy Enterprises (EOSE) surged 12% on Wednesday following the unveiling of a three-way collaboration with MN8 Energy and Google to develop a combined solar and energy storage facility in West Virginia.
Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc., EOSE
The facility will be constructed on a reclaimed coal mining site located in Kanawha County. MN8 Energy will assume ownership and operational responsibilities under the designation Mammoth Solar.
The configuration merges 86 MW of utility-scale solar infrastructure with dual energy storage technologies. Eos will deliver 10 MW/100 MWh of its Z3 zinc-based long-duration storage solution, complemented by lithium-ion batteries contributing 70 MW/280 MWh of supplementary capacity.
The integrated system is engineered to supply clean, dispatchable electricity to the PJM grid continuously, aligning with the energy consumption patterns of Google’s regional data centers, including a forthcoming facility in West Virginia.
Google has agreed to procure the electricity, capacity, and renewable energy attributes produced by the installation. This initiative aligns with Google’s broader strategy to introduce new generation capacity to grids serving its operations.
A Pioneering Deployment for Eos and the Region
This project represents Google’s inaugural adoption of Eos’ domestically-produced Z3 technology. Additionally, it serves as the first initiative to emerge from the previously disclosed MN8-Eos Master Supply Agreement.
The Z3 solution delivers 10 hours of energy storage, enabling solar power to extend well beyond what conventional lithium-ion configurations can achieve. This also constitutes West Virginia’s first commercial-scale long-duration energy storage installation.
The solar component is anticipated to achieve commercial operation status in 2028. The lithium-ion storage infrastructure is scheduled to go live in 2029, while the long-duration Z3 system is planned for activation in 2030.
Financial and Community Benefits
The initiative carries an estimated capital expenditure of up to $350 million. Throughout its initial two decades of operation, the project is forecast to deliver approximately $4 million in property tax contributions to Kanawha County and local educational institutions.
The construction phase is expected to yield roughly 200 employment opportunities, with ongoing full-time and part-time positions anticipated throughout the facility’s operational lifespan.
Eos operates from its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania headquarters, where it also conducts manufacturing activities, maintaining regional supply chain networks.
This agreement arrives as data center operators encounter increasing demands to obtain dependable, renewable power sources. Google has been proactively investing in long-duration energy storage technologies as a component of its comprehensive energy approach.
Nathan Kroeker, Chief Commercial Officer at Eos, stated that the Z3 system “extends the value of clean generation across more hours, strengthens the overall portfolio, and delivers more dependable capacity when it’s needed most.”
MN8 CEO Jon Yoder remarked that the project demonstrates what becomes possible when a customer like Google is “willing to pair next-generation storage with utility-scale solar.”
The 12% increase in EOSE shares occurred on September 2, 2026, the day the partnership was publicly announced.
