European Stock Markets Open Higher Ahead of US Inflation Data

European stock markets opened on a positive note, with major indices recording modest gains. The Eurostoxx index rose by 0.6%, while Germany's DAX increased by 0.4%. Other notable movements included France's CAC 40 up by 0.5%, the UK's FTSE gaining 0.2%, Spain's IBEX rising by 0.5%, and Italy's FTSE MIB climbing by 0.3%. This broad-based increase follows a steadier performance from the previous day, as investors take a breather after recent surges in bond yields and fiscal concerns in France.

Despite the positive start, market participants are cautious ahead of the release of the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for September. With Treasury yields reaching multi-decade highs recently, inflation remains a critical issue. Investors are particularly concerned that a strong inflation reading could lead the Federal Reserve to maintain higher interest rates for an extended period or even implement another rate hike by the end of the year.

The focus will be on core inflation figures, especially as rising energy prices are expected to elevate the overall inflation rate. The ability of European stocks to sustain their early gains may depend on the market's reaction to US Treasury yields and the overall risk sentiment following the inflation data release. For now, the mood appears calmer, reflected in a slight increase of 0.1% in S&P 500 futures as the US trading session approaches.
