Kirkland & Ellis appoints Nelson Ni as partner in Shanghai
Kirkland & Ellis has appointed Nelson Ni as a partner in its Shanghai office, bringing back the corporate lawyer following an in-house role at a private equity firm, according to a statement from the law firm.
Ni was previously a partner in Kirkland’s Hong Kong and Shanghai offices. Most recently, he served as assistant general counsel at an unnamed private equity firm, advising on investments, portfolio company matters and strategic initiatives across Greater China and Asia-Pacific.
His practice covers M&A, growth investments, carve-outs, take-private transactions, joint ventures and corporate governance. He advises private equity sponsors, sovereign wealth funds, strategic investors and multinational companies on cross-border transactions across Asia.
Ni’s sector experience includes technology, healthcare, consumer, industrials, financial services and business services.
Kirkland partner Dr Mengyu Lu said Ni’s private practice and investor-side experience would support clients facing commercial, legal and strategic challenges, adding that his return reflected the firm’s continued investment in Asia.
Kirkland marks its 20th anniversary in Asia this year. It has more than 140 legal professionals across Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo, advising on areas including private equity, M&A, finance, fund formation and restructuring.
