Global Markets React to Rising Oil Prices and Anticipation of US CPI Report

Global markets are experiencing fluctuations as crude oil prices continue to rise, driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East. WTI crude oil has increased by 1.38%, reaching $95.45 per barrel, following reports of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, which have raised concerns about potential supply disruptions. This surge in oil prices has led to a pullback in other markets, including a slight increase in the S&P 500, which is up 0.13% to 7866.

Investors are closely monitoring the upcoming US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, with particular attention on the Core CPI month-over-month measure. Current market expectations suggest a 21% probability of a rate hike by the Federal Reserve in October, contingent on the CPI data. Analysts believe that an increase to 0.4% could trigger a risk-off sentiment in the markets, potentially leading to declines in stock prices and a rally in the US dollar, while a lower-than-expected figure might provide temporary relief to equities and precious metals.

In Europe, Spain's September CPI has been confirmed at 4.9%, contributing to pressure on the European Central Bank to consider rate hikes. Additionally, German wholesale prices have continued to rise, keeping inflation risks at the forefront of economic discussions. As geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties persist, including the impact of rising oil prices, market participants remain cautious ahead of the US inflation data release.
