Intel (INTC) Stock Rockets 12% Higher: What’s Driving the Chip Maker’s Rally?

      Key Highlights

      • Intel shares climbed 12.1% to close at $121.78 during Monday’s session, with volume exceeding typical levels by 60%
      • The launch of Meta’s Muse AI agent sparked optimism around data center processor demand, supporting Intel’s server chip segment
      • Declining crude oil prices and Treasury yields dipping under 5% created favorable conditions for technology equities
      • Melius Research initiated coverage with a Buy recommendation and $165 target, emphasizing foundry division prospects
      • Wall Street’s overall stance remains neutral with a consensus price target of $108.49, trailing current trading levels

Shares of Intel surged 12.1% during Monday’s trading session, touching an intraday peak of $124.73 before closing at $121.78. The primary driver behind Monday’s advance was Meta’s introduction of its Muse AI agent platform. Investors interpreted this development as signaling increased demand for server-grade processors to handle AI inference tasks, positioning Intel’s data center division to capture additional revenue.

Broader market dynamics also played a supporting role. West Texas Intermediate crude declined approximately 3% to reach $96.56 per barrel, while Brent crude fell more than 3% to $100.72. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury yield retreated beneath the 5% threshold, reducing headwinds for growth-oriented equities.

Rival chipmaker AMD also benefited from the positive sentiment, advancing roughly 8% to reach a 52-week peak of $609.50, pushing its market capitalization toward the $1 trillion milestone.

Over the most recent five-day trading period, Intel has accumulated gains exceeding 19%, while AMD has posted advances of more than 20% during the identical timeframe.

      Analyst Community Response

Melius Research initiated coverage last week with a Buy recommendation and established a $165 price target, representing approximately 51% upside potential from Friday’s closing level. Analyst Ben Reitzes outlined a scenario where shares could reach $200 within two years, predicated primarily on Intel Foundry Services growth and successful deployment of the 14A manufacturing process. This projection assumes high-volume manufacturing ramps up by 2028, potentially serving major clients such as Apple and Tesla.

Tigress Financial separately increased its Intel target from $118 to $145, maintaining its Buy rating while characterizing the company as experiencing an “accelerating AI-driven turnaround.” The firm highlighted strengthening Xeon processor demand alongside execution improvements on Intel’s 18A technology node.

However, the aggregate analyst perspective remains at “Hold” with a mean price target of $108.49, positioning consensus expectations below current market pricing.

Production Capacity Challenges and Strategic Partnerships

One notable data point attracting investor attention: Intel reportedly can satisfy approximately half of existing customer orders. While this supply-demand imbalance presents near-term limitations, it demonstrates robust order books and suggests revenue acceleration potential as manufacturing capacity increases.

Strengthening the foundry narrative, Reuters disclosed last week that SK Hynix is exploring possibilities for establishing memory chip manufacturing operations at Intel’s delayed Ohio fabrication facility. Such an agreement would provide Intel’s foundry division with a significant anchor customer while advancing its contract manufacturing objectives.

Chief Executive Lip-Bu Tan acquired approximately 105,000 Intel shares during August at $95 per share, representing roughly $10 million in total investment. This insider purchase provided additional validation ahead of this week’s price movement.

Regarding financial performance, Intel’s most recent quarterly results delivered earnings of $0.42 per share, surpassing analyst projections of $0.21. Revenue totaled $16.13 billion, representing 25.2% year-over-year growth and exceeding consensus expectations of $14.43 billion.

Bank of America analyst Vivek Arya projects the semiconductor sector’s total addressable market will expand to $3.2 trillion by 2030, compared to approximately $1.7 trillion currently, identifying Intel among companies positioned to capture this growth.

Intel has provided Q3 2026 EPS guidance of $0.38, while analysts project full-year earnings reaching $1.04 per share.
