Intel (INTC) Stock Surges 4% in Premarket Trading on Manufacturing Breakthrough
Key Takeaways
- Intel shares advanced over 4% during Tuesday’s premarket session, extending a 4% rally from Monday’s close
- Intel Foundry and ASML announced they have processed more than 1 million wafers utilizing High-NA EUV lithography technology
- The advanced manufacturing technique is deployed on Intel’s 18A node for upcoming Panther Lake chips, delivering expected results
- President Trump highlighted the semiconductor giant in an AI-created Truth Social image, drawing additional market attention
- Analysts maintain a Hold consensus with a mean price target of $116.16, suggesting approximately 21% potential upside
Shares of Intel were climbing more than 4% during Tuesday’s premarket hours, reaching approximately $98.95 as the chipmaker extended gains from Monday’s 4% advance. The stock has now registered gains exceeding 10% across the last three trading sessions.
The rally follows a significant announcement from Intel Foundry and ASML regarding a breakthrough in High-NA Extreme Ultraviolet lithography technology. The semiconductor manufacturer revealed it has successfully processed over one million wafers utilizing this cutting-edge technology across various applications including testing, research and development, and high-volume manufacturing.
High-NA EUV represents an advanced chipmaking methodology engineered to enable production of increasingly sophisticated processors and artificial intelligence accelerators. Intel has integrated this technology into specific layers of its 18A manufacturing process, the foundation for its upcoming Panther Lake processor family.
According to the company’s statement, critical metrics including overlay precision, manufacturing throughput, and equipment uptime are all achieving targeted performance levels. Additionally, chips manufactured on the Intel 18A node incorporating High-NA EUV technology are delivering performance that equals or exceeds comparable layers produced using ASML’s current-generation NXE EUV equipment.
ASML’s CEO Christophe Fouquet recognized Intel as “one of the key leaders” in adopting High-NA EUV manufacturing. Intel deployed ASML’s first commercial EXE High-NA system in 2024 and has successfully transitioned it into full-scale production operations.
Meanwhile, President Trump contributed to increased attention on the stock Monday with a Truth Social post featuring an AI-generated graphic depicting a hypothetical Intel purchase at $20 alongside a current valuation of $95. He suggested his administration’s policies have created “Hundreds of Billions of Dollars” in wealth for Americans through equity markets and related investments.
Photomask Innovation and Scaling Roadmap
Intel and ASML are collaborating to ensure High-NA EUV technology remains compatible with the semiconductor industry’s standard 6-inch photomask infrastructure. Foundry customers can utilize conventional mask dimensions or leverage Intel Foundry’s advanced stitching capabilities for larger designs.
The chipmaker has also invested more than three years developing pathways toward expanded 6×12-inch photomasks to enable future chip architecture scaling. Intel is partnering with ASML, mask suppliers, electronic design automation companies, and materials vendors to establish the required manufacturing ecosystem.
Naga Chandrasekaran, Intel’s Executive Vice President and Foundry Co-General Manager, emphasized that next-generation AI products demand manufacturing processes that are both production-ready and accessible for customer implementation.
Wall Street Perspectives and Chart Analysis
Intel maintains a consensus Hold rating derived from five Buy recommendations, 24 Hold ratings, and two Sell ratings issued over the past three months. The average analyst price target stands at $116.16, indicating roughly 21% upside potential from current trading levels.
Mizuho reaffirmed its Neutral stance on September 4 while lowering its price objective to $92. Bank of America sustained a Buy rating on August 12 with a $145 target price. UBS maintained its Neutral rating with a $112 valuation.
From a technical perspective, Intel is currently trading 33% above its 200-day moving average of $74.15. The stock is positioned slightly below both its 50-day simple moving average of $100.61 and its 100-day SMA of $103.86. The Relative Strength Index reads 50.33, indicating neutral market momentum.
Primary resistance appears near the $107.50 level. Support is established around $89.50.
Technology sector investor Dan Niles noted that Intel’s expanded $20 billion capital raise reinforces his thesis that the company may be nearing substantial foundry customer contracts that would necessitate increased manufacturing capacity.
