Iran Agrees to Secret Nuclear Site Visits in Potential Compromise with U.S.

Qatar and Pakistan have proposed a compromise plan to the United States and Iran, which reportedly includes key concessions from both sides. The proposal, presented to Iranian officials by Pakistan's army chief, has already received approval from American officials and some preliminary acceptance from Iran. Central to the agreement is the release of $6 billion in interest on Iranian funds that have been frozen in Qatari banks, along with a partial response to Iran's demands regarding the return of these funds.

Additionally, the plan includes a secret visit by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to Iranian nuclear sites, addressing a significant demand from the U.S. The framework aims to prevent further escalation in tensions and to restart negotiations between Washington and Tehran. A breakthrough announcement to halt the current escalation is anticipated within the week, as mediators continue to work on resolving outstanding issues.

Market reactions have been cautious, with crude oil prices dropping approximately $1 per barrel following the news. Traders remain hesitant to respond to developments concerning Iran, particularly given the sensitive nature of the information. However, the structure of the proposed deal allows both parties to claim victories: Iran would receive cash while the U.S. maintains that the principal funds remain frozen. The quiet IAEA visit is seen as a necessary step before any larger agreements can be made, although the leak of such a 'secret' visit may complicate trust-building efforts.
