Iran Faces Severe Medicine Shortages Amid Sanctions and Inflation

Iran is experiencing a critical shortage of medications, exacerbated by U.S. sanctions, rampant inflation, and the ongoing impacts of war. Reports indicate that nearly 800 different medications are affected, forcing patients to make difficult choices such as cutting doses, delaying treatments, or opting for cheaper and less effective alternatives.

Pharmacies in Iran are also struggling to cope with the situation, as they are owed approximately $300 million by insurance companies. This financial strain is further complicating the distribution of essential medicines, leaving many patients without the necessary treatments for their health conditions. The combination of these factors is contributing to a growing healthcare crisis in the country.
