UK Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.7% in August

The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom for August 2026 has been reported at 4.7%, a decrease from the previous rate of 4.9% and better than the anticipated figure of 5.0%. This decline indicates a positive trend in the labor market as the country continues to recover from economic challenges.

In terms of employment changes, the UK saw a net increase of 5,000 jobs in August, which is significantly lower than the prior month's increase of 67,000 jobs. This figure also fell short of expectations, which had predicted a gain of 5,000 jobs.

Average weekly earnings in the UK rose by 3.8% over the three months leading up to August, slightly below the previous increase of 3.9%. This figure was also less than the expected growth of 3.8%. The data reflects ongoing adjustments in the labor market as the economy navigates post-pandemic recovery.
