US Stocks Close Higher with Nasdaq 100 Reaching Record Levels

US stocks experienced a positive trading session on Friday, with the Nasdaq 100 achieving a record closing level. The Nasdaq Composite led the major indices, rising by 1.19%, although it closed slightly below its all-time high after reaching it during intraday trading. The broader S&P 500 index also saw gains, increasing by 0.73%, but remains approximately 1% away from its previous peak.

The September employment report contributed to market optimism, revealing a rise in nonfarm payrolls of just 29,000, which fell short of the anticipated 90,000. This data eased concerns regarding a potential near-term interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, prompting a focus on the possibility of less tightening in monetary policy despite slower hiring raising questions about economic growth.

In terms of closing figures, the Dow Industrial Average rose by 250 points, or 0.49%, finishing at 51,182.11, while the Russell 2000 index increased by 0.94%. However, the weekly performance showed a divide, with the Nasdaq indices finishing higher for the week, while the Dow, S&P 500, and Russell 2000 ended lower. The Nasdaq 100's weekly gain was 0.65%, bolstered by strong performances from technology stocks, including Nvidia, which approached a new all-time high during the session.
