Anthropic Prepares to Go Public as Early as November with Valuation of Up to $2T — Media

      • Anthropic is nearing an IPO in November this year.
      • The company expects more than $100 billion in annual revenue.
      • In addition, despite disputes over AI safety, the potential pre-IPO valuation stands at $2 trillion.

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI model, has stepped up preparations for an initial public offering (IPO) that could take place as early as November 2026. According to sources cited by The New York Times, the company expects to push its annualized revenue run rate to more than $100 billion by year-end, up from $65 billion in July.

Anthropic’s potential valuation could reach $2 trillion, while the IPO is expected to provide the company with additional capital to fund massive spending on compute.

      Anthropic Prepares for an IPO

Anthropic could file its IPO financial documents in the coming weeks, potentially allowing trading to begin in November. At the same time, sources stress that the timeline could shift depending on investor sentiment and market conditions.

As a reminder, the company filed a confidential application to go public back in June.

Preparations for the listing are already being accompanied by meetings with potential investors. On September 18, 2026, Anthropic hosted an event at its San Francisco headquarters for around 100 representatives of venture funds. Speakers included co-founders Jared Kaplan and Ben Mann, Claude Code lead Boris Cherny, and researcher Andrej Karpathy, who joined Anthropic earlier this year.

According to sources, the company’s leadership team and bankers are also meeting with major potential investors and existing shareholders.

Anthropic expects to have around 5 GW of compute capacity by the end of 2026 and to roughly double that figure next year. That scale would put it on par with its rival OpenAI.

Anthropic’s main source of revenue remains enterprise customers, who are only beginning to roll out AI at scale. In meetings with investors, the company also highlighted the technology’s potential for biological research and disease treatment.

      IPO Amid AI Safety Debates

Preparations for the IPO are taking place alongside public calls from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to slow the development of certain cutting-edge AI models due to potential risks. This raises additional questions for investors about possible legal exposure, particularly if an autonomous AI agent becomes the trigger for a lawsuit.

At the same time, some investors believe that going public could strengthen the company’s transparency and accountability. Anthropic investor Brad Gerstner wrote:

“Anthropic will IPO. […] And its beneficial / critical that we bring even more transparency, scrutiny, accountability, & participation to these grt American companies!”

Meanwhile, Jesse Fried, Harvard Law School professor, noted that being public does not guarantee full openness from the lab:

“If you’re worried about, like, agents emerging from the testing dungeons of Anthropic and taking over the world, it doesn’t really help.”

Unlike Anthropic, OpenAI has postponed a potential IPO until 2027. Previously, the company had considered a listing amid plans to raise private funding at a valuation of around $1.5 trillion.
