Binance Pursues Compliance Amid MiCA License Challenges in Greece

Binance, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving long-term compliance with the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. This statement follows a report by The Wall Street Journal that suggested European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde was urging Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to block Binance's application for a MiCA license in Greece.

The exchange initially submitted its MiCA license application in January 2026. However, in June, reports emerged indicating that the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) was likely to reject the application. In response, Binance withdrew its application shortly before the July 1 deadline, indicating plans to pursue authorization from other EU member states instead. Neither the European Central Bank nor the HCMC has commented on these developments.
