OKX Applies to U.S. SEC for Tokenized Stock Trading Platform

OKX, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has filed an application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a platform for trading tokenized stocks. This initiative positions OKX as one of the first major exchanges to take advantage of new U.S. regulations that permit the trading of digital versions of publicly listed company stocks on cryptocurrency platforms.

The proposed platform, developed through a joint venture named OKX ICE LLC, is a collaboration between OKX and the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The platform aims to support trading for 63 stocks that are currently listed on the NYSE.

Under the SEC's new framework, issuers of the relevant stocks have a 30-day period to opt-out of the tokenization process. If no opt-out requests are made, trading of these tokenized stocks could begin shortly thereafter. This development reflects a growing intersection between traditional finance and the cryptocurrency sector.
