Bitcoin Market Sees Divergence as European Demand Surges

The Bitcoin market is experiencing a notable divergence between Europe and the United States, with Europe's market rising by 4% since early September 2026, while the US market has declined by 3%. As of mid-September, Bitcoin was priced around $75,000, but by September 23, it surged to over $87,000 before stabilizing in the $83,000 to $85,000 range. This fluctuation has raised concerns among traders, particularly as the Coinbase Premium Index indicated negative values for 29 consecutive days, suggesting US investors are currently paying less for Bitcoin compared to their global counterparts.

Despite the decline in US demand, the week of September 21-25 saw US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attract approximately $2.39 billion in net inflows, marking the largest weekly inflow in about a year. This influx was primarily driven by institutional investors through products from major firms like BlackRock and Fidelity. However, the contrasting trends in ETF inflows and the negative Coinbase premium indicate that US demand may be uneven, with some investors showing confidence while others remain cautious.

In Europe, the launch of the first euro-hedged Bitcoin exchange-traded commodity (ETC) by HANetf on September 29 aims to cater to European investors seeking to mitigate volatility associated with currency fluctuations. This development coincides with the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework in the European Union, which establishes standardized regulations for crypto assets across member states. As Europe strengthens its regulatory environment, the region's growing interest in Bitcoin could further influence market dynamics.
