Binance's SAFU Fund Surpasses $1.27 Billion in Bitcoin Holdings

Binance's Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) now holds over $1.27 billion worth of Bitcoin, reflecting approximately $270 million in unrealized profits. The fund was established to protect users in the event of security breaches or other emergencies.

In February 2026, Binance converted around $1 billion in stablecoins into 15,000 BTC, completing the transaction on February 12 with a significant purchase of 4,545 BTC at a price of about $67,000 per Bitcoin. By early May 2026, as Bitcoin's price rose above $81,000, the fund's value increased to over $1.2 billion, leading to substantial unrealized gains.

Binance has made the wallet address for the SAFU fund public, allowing users to monitor its balance on-chain. The exchange has committed to conducting regular audits of the fund and has established a top-up rule to maintain a minimum market value of $1 billion, ensuring user protection in volatile market conditions. SAFU, created in July 2018, has previously been utilized to cover user losses from security incidents, including a notable $40 million hack in 2019.
