Broadcom to Provide Anthropic with up to $42B to Fund AI Infrastructure

      • Broadcom has agreed to provide Anthropic with up to $42 billion as part of funding for computing infrastructure.
      • Anthropic could become Broadcom’s largest customer in its chip design business as early as 2027.
      • The company warned of potential conflicts of interest due to Broadcom’s dual role as both an equipment supplier and a financial partner.

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI model, will raise up to $42 billion in funding from chipmaker Broadcom to cover infrastructure spending, according to an IPO prospectus reviewed by Reuters.

The deal is part of Anthropic’s large-scale plan to ramp up computing capacity amid preparations for a potential IPO as early as November 2026 and a valuation of up to $2 trillion. At the same time, the partnership makes Broadcom one of the key players in the company’s infrastructure strategy.

Broadcom Will Fund Anthropic’s Compute Expansion

The relationship between the companies covers compute supply, equipment leasing, and financing. Under the terms of the arrangement, Broadcom may bring in a financial partner, and the debt instruments could potentially be converted into Anthropic shares. The company said it does not expect to sell such convertible notes before the IPO is completed.

The financing could cover about one-third of Anthropic’s $125.2 billion commitments under a five-year agreement to lease TPU-based computing capacity.

Google and Broadcom have collaborated on multiple generations of TPUs. In April 2026, Anthropic announced an expanded partnership with both companies that provides access to several gigawatts of next-generation TPU compute capacity starting in 2027.

As a result, Anthropic could become Broadcom’s largest customer in chip design as early as next year. Broadcom forecasts its AI semiconductor revenue at around $115 billion in fiscal 2027 and $230 billion in 2028.

“Nvidia is putting in place a massive amount of its balance sheet, and Broadcom is having to follow suit,” said Jay Goldberg, Seaport Research analyst.

Anthropic Warned of Potential Conflicts of Interest

In its prospectus, Anthropic noted that Broadcom’s dual role as both a hardware supplier and a financial partner creates “potential conflicts of interest.” Broadcom’s decisions on pricing and hardware, the company said, could affect its ability to secure sufficient computing infrastructure.

Anthropic also said that in April 2026 it deposited funds into a restricted account for Broadcom’s benefit and, under certain circumstances, may be required to contribute additional amounts.

The company warned that certain instances of nonperformance of payment or other obligations could result in an accelerated demand for a significant portion of lease payments. At the same time, this could limit its ability to use Broadcom’s $42 billion credit line to cover such payments.

“It feels that there’s quite a concentrated bet right now on two companies being able to generate enough revenues to support all the financing that’s happened,” noted Robert Leitao, managing partner at Rothschild & Co.

The partnership comes against the backdrop of Anthropic’s large-scale infrastructure plans. As reported earlier, the company plans to spend about $518 billion on cloud services, compute capacity, and infrastructure in the coming years.
