Some Russian Finance Ministry employees receive salaries in digital rubles for first time

PANews reported on October 4, citing Cointelegraph, that Russia's Finance Ministry said on Friday that some of its employees received their salaries in digital rubles for the first time. The ministry did not disclose how many employees were paid in the digital currency or the total amount paid out.

The Finance Ministry said that, given that roughly 16 million digital rubles (about $192,245) had already been successfully disbursed during an earlier pilot of 2025 federal budget expenditures, it was now applying this established payment channel to its own salary payment process. In addition, Russia's central bank is working with the Finance Ministry to advance efforts to incorporate the digital ruble into budget payment processes.
