Binance Founder Zhao Changpeng Discusses Time in California Prison

Zhao Changpeng, the founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, revealed in a recent interview that he was once detained at Lompoc II, a low-security prison in California, where he shared space with Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX. Zhao described how he prepared for his time in prison by assembling a team of advisors who educated him on the intricacies of prison life, including the subtle politics of cell block dynamics.

After serving his sentence, Zhao Changpeng transitioned to a halfway house in August 2024. However, complications regarding his immigration status led him to spend the final two weeks of his confinement in a local jail, where he occupied his time with physical exercises such as push-ups and sit-ups.

Upon his release, Zhao Changpeng's departure was swift; it took only 26 minutes from the moment he was freed until his private jet took off. This rapid exit underscores the significant resources at his disposal following his time in custody.
