Revolut Achieves $115 Billion Valuation, Becomes Europe's Most Valuable Startup

Revolut, a crypto-friendly bank, has reached a private valuation of $115 billion, making it the highest-valued startup in Europe, surpassing established financial institutions such as Barclays Bank in the United Kingdom and Société Générale in France. The company has amassed 80 million customers, closely trailing JPMorgan's 84 million and significantly outpacing HSBC's 41 million.

The bank is actively seeking additional market licenses to expand its operations beyond Mexico into regions including Australia. Despite a projected pre-tax profit of £1.7 billion for 2025, which is lower than Barclays Bank's £9 billion, Revolut continues to demonstrate rapid growth. Its revenue is generated from a diverse range of products, including payments, foreign exchange, and card subscriptions, rather than being heavily reliant on loans.

As of the end of 2025, Revolut's loan scale is expected to be £2.2 billion, resulting in a loan-to-deposit ratio of 6%, which is considerably lower than HSBC's 55% and Société Générale's 86%. However, the company faces challenges such as low revenue per customer, a limited loan business scale, and insufficient usage of main accounts. In the competitive U.S. market, Revolut currently holds a temporary license, but it must navigate increasing competition. Additionally, the company has faced regulatory issues, including a fine in Lithuania for anti-money laundering deficiencies and a data breach incident in September involving customer data being mistakenly sent to hackers posing as government investigators.
