Bitcoin Price Holds $77,650 Going Into a Fed Hike Priced at…
Updated 14 September 2026. Bitcoin traded at $77,662 on Coinbase and $77,648 on Kraken as of 13:11 UTC, inside a 24-hour Kraken range of $76,350 to $78,339 against a $76,800 open.
Verdict: A 25bp Fed hike on Wednesday is priced somewhere between 81.5% and 90% depending on the gauge, so the decision itself is mostly in the price. Bitcoin is sitting on its first support band with ETF money leaving, and the dot plot is the part that can still move it.
Key facts
- Bitcoin was quoted at $77,662 (Coinbase) and $77,648 (Kraken) at 13:11 UTC on 14 September 2026. Kraken's 24-hour range was $76,350 to $78,339 on a $76,800 open, leaving BTC up about 1.1% on the session.
- The FOMC meets 15-16 September, with the decision due Wednesday 16 September at 2:00pm ET.
- Polymarket priced a 25bp increase at 81.5% and no change at 18.5% at 13:11 UTC on 14 September, on about $8.2 million of 24-hour volume. A 50bp hike was priced at 0.65%.
- CME FedWatch put the chance of a hike at 86.5% on Monday morning, up from 69.4% on Friday morning (Yahoo Finance). The Rio Times cited roughly 90% after the CPI print. Treat the probability as a range of 81.5% to 90%, not one number.
- US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost about $462.7 million over the four sessions from 8 to 11 September (Farside Investors), with the worst day a $282.7 million outflow on 10 September (SoSoValue, as reported by Coinpaprika).
- CryptoQuant marks resistance at about $81,700, then $83,600 and $88,700, with support at $70,000 and a stronger long-term-holder accumulation zone at $62,000 to $65,000 (Proactive Investors, 14 September).
A hike that is nearly priced does less than it sounds
A week ago the question was whether the Fed would hike at all. On 8 September fed funds futures put the probability of a September increase near 57%. August CPI changed that: headline inflation ran at +0.4% month on month and 3.4% year on year, and core came in at +0.3% against a 0.2% consensus. By Monday morning CME FedWatch had the hike at 86.5%, and Proactive Investors reported that Goldman Sachs had dropped its hold call in favour of a 25bp increase.
That is why the hike on its own is a weak catalyst for Bitcoin this week. A move that most of the market already expects is not new information. The gap that still matters is the roughly 10% to 18% chance of no change, and more importantly what the Summary of Economic Projections and the dot plot say about October and beyond. We set out why the prediction-market and futures odds disagree, with the measurement time of each, in our 12 September comparison of Polymarket and CME FedWatch.
Where Bitcoin sits going in
Bitcoin at $77,650 is about 6% below the three-month highs above $82,000, according to Proactive Investors. It has spent the past several sessions on the $77,000 to $78,000 band that technical write-ups had flagged as first support as early as 8 September, and Monday's low of $76,350 on Kraken dipped briefly under it before buyers pulled price back.
The ceiling is equally well defined. Repeated attempts to reclaim $80,000 have failed, and CryptoQuant places the level that would signal a new bullish phase at about $81,700. For how Bitcoin reacted on the day the inflation data landed, see our 11 September report on BTC after August CPI.
ETF money is leaving, and not towards cash
The flow data is the clearest change of the past week. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded outflows on each of the four sessions from 8 to 11 September: about $46.6 million, $120.2 million, $282.7 million and $13.3 million by SoSoValue's count, which Farside Investors puts near $462.7 million in total. The Rio Times described it as the heaviest weekly withdrawal in about ten weeks.
Providers do not agree on the last day. Some trackers put 11 September outflows nearer 3,391 BTC, or about $267 million, against SoSoValue's $13.3 million, so the size of Friday's move is uncertain even though the direction is not. Over the same stretch spot Ethereum ETFs took inflows, including $216.4 million on 11 September; our Ethereum piece from this morning covers that side of the rotation.
Scenarios into and after the decision
| Scenario | BTC level | Named anchor |
|---|---|---|
| Bear | $70,000 | CryptoQuant's support level. A hawkish dot plot combined with continued ETF outflows is the obvious route through the $77,000-$78,000 band. Below $70,000, CryptoQuant's long-term-holder zone sits at $62,000-$65,000. |
| Base | $77,000-$80,000 | The hike lands as priced and Bitcoin stays inside the range it has held since CPI, between first support and the $80,000 level it has repeatedly failed to reclaim. |
| Bull | $83,600 | CryptoQuant's second resistance, reachable only after a clean break of about $81,700. A hike framed as the last of the cycle is the scenario that funds it; $88,700 is the next level above. |
These are levels for the days around the meeting, not a 12-month view. For longer-horizon bull and bear cases, see our Bitcoin price prediction with a $98,000 bull case and a $60,000 bear case.
Quick take
Bitcoin at $77,650 goes into Wednesday on its first support band, with about $463 million out of spot ETFs over four sessions and a hike priced at 81.5% to 90%. The rate move itself is mostly known. What is not known is how hawkish the projections are, and with $81,700 overhead and $70,000 as the next named support below, that is the number that decides which way the range breaks.
FAQ
What is the Bitcoin price today?
Bitcoin traded at $77,662 on Coinbase and $77,648 on Kraken at 13:11 UTC on 14 September 2026, within a 24-hour range of $76,350 to $78,339. Crypto trades around the clock, so any single quote is a snapshot.
When is the Fed decision?
The FOMC meets 15-16 September 2026 and announces its decision on Wednesday 16 September at 2:00pm ET, followed by the press conference and updated economic projections.
How likely is a Fed rate hike in September?
Polymarket priced a 25bp increase at 81.5% at 13:11 UTC on 14 September. CME FedWatch showed 86.5% on Monday morning, up from 69.4% on Friday, and some reports cited about 90% after CPI. A range of 81.5% to 90% is the honest answer.
Why would a Fed hike matter for Bitcoin?
Higher rates raise the return on cash and bonds, which increases the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as Bitcoin. Because a hike is already largely priced, the forward guidance in the dot plot is likely to matter more than the decision itself.
Are Bitcoin ETFs seeing inflows or outflows?
Outflows. US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost about $462.7 million over 8-11 September according to Farside Investors, with the largest single-day outflow of $282.7 million on 10 September. Estimates for 11 September vary between providers.
What are the key Bitcoin support and resistance levels?
First support is the $77,000-$78,000 band. CryptoQuant marks $70,000 as support and $62,000-$65,000 as a stronger accumulation zone. On the upside, $80,000 has capped recent attempts and CryptoQuant places resistance at about $81,700, $83,600 and $88,700.
Could Bitcoin fall to $70,000 after the Fed meeting?
It is the next named support below the current band, and a hawkish set of projections alongside continued ETF outflows is the most plausible path there. It is a scenario level, not a forecast.
