Bitget Hacker Moves $1.23 Million from Binance Following Major Security Breach

The hacker responsible for the recent Bitget security breach has withdrawn $1.23 million from Binance, transferring the funds to a wallet associated with the attack. This transaction is part of a larger scheme following a breach that resulted in unauthorized transfers totaling approximately $387.5 million from Bitget's hot and warm wallets, detected on September 24, 2026.

On September 25, just a day after the breach, on-chain analysis revealed multiple withdrawals from Binance's hot wallets, including significant amounts of Ethereum and USDT. By September 26, a total of 457.9 ETH had been traced to a wallet believed to be under the attacker's control. Both Bitget and Binance are collaborating to trace the stolen funds, with assistance from cybersecurity firms and law enforcement agencies.

The breach was notably sophisticated, involving a compromise of Bitget's backend system that allowed the attacker to spoof transaction data. Initial estimates of the losses were revised upward as investigators uncovered additional unauthorized transfers. In response, Bitget has paused withdrawals and committed to covering customer losses through its User Protection Fund, which currently holds over $464 million. Speculation has arisen regarding potential links to North Korean hacking groups, although this has yet to be confirmed.
