BNY in Negotiations with Kraken's Parent Company for Digital Asset Collaboration

BNY, a prominent custody bank formerly known as Bank of New York Mellon, is currently in discussions with Payward, the parent company of the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, regarding a potential collaboration focused on digital assets and financial market infrastructure. The talks may encompass a range of services including crypto products, custody solutions, wealth management, trading, and payments, which would be facilitated through Payward Services aimed at banks, exchanges, and asset management firms.

This proposed partnership could mirror the recent agreement between Payward and Nasdaq, which involves the development of operational and commercial infrastructure for tokenized stocks. In September 2026, Nasdaq Ventures announced a $100 million investment in Payward, valuing the company at $21 billion. This collaboration is expected to enhance the integration of digital asset businesses with traditional financial institutions, furthering Payward's strategic goals in the sector.

While negotiations are ongoing, both BNY and Payward have refrained from commenting on the discussions. The outcome remains uncertain, but a successful agreement would mark a significant step in bridging the gap between digital assets and conventional finance, particularly as BNY continues to innovate with tokenized deposits to facilitate near real-time settlements among institutional market participants.
