BTCPay Server Releases Version 2.4.5 with Enhanced Security Features
BTCPay Server has announced the release of version 2.4.5, which focuses on improving security and speeding up invoice processing. The update, made public on October 5, 2026, introduces significant changes aimed at protecting users from potential vulnerabilities, particularly Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF). This type of attack can allow malicious actors to trick a server into making unauthorized requests, potentially exposing sensitive internal systems. The new version implements stricter controls on Lightning and LNURL outbound requests, as well as invoice webhooks, enhancing the overall security of transactions.
In addition to security enhancements, version 2.4.5 also improves performance by making invoice generation faster. The update includes a cleanup of Docker integrations, which are commonly used for installation and operation, and now requires users who rely on Tor for anonymity to manually re-enable this feature after the update. This change aims to streamline the software while ensuring that users maintain control over their privacy settings.
The update also tightens refund permissions, limiting who on a store's team can authorize refunds, thereby reducing the risk of unauthorized fund transfers. Furthermore, public invoice details will be hidden one month after issuance, addressing privacy concerns related to the long-term visibility of payment information. Administrators are encouraged to update their systems through the server settings menu and review the new configurations, especially if they have custom integrations or plugins. This release continues BTCPay Server's commitment to enhancing security and user experience in the cryptocurrency payment processing space.
