Zcash and Monero Surge as Bitcoin Remains Stagnant
In the cryptocurrency market, Zcash (ZEC) and Monero (XMR) have emerged as the top performers over the past 24 hours, while Bitcoin and Ethereum have shown little movement. As of early October 2026, Zcash is trading between $1,300 and $1,370, marking a year-to-date increase of over 700%. The coin reached an all-time high of nearly $1,699 on September 26, 2026, before experiencing a pullback. Monero is priced around $560 and has also demonstrated positive yearly gains, although it is still working to recover from a peak of approximately $801 in January 2026.
The privacy coin sector as a whole has seen significant growth, with a 205% increase since April 2026, adding approximately $24.5 billion in market capitalization over five months. A contributing factor to Zcash's performance is the launch of the Grayscale ZCSH ETF on NYSE Arca on August 25, 2026, which attracted substantial inflows initially but has faced recent outflows as ZEC's price fluctuated. Additionally, Zcash implemented a technical upgrade in early October 2026, enabling faster block times.
In contrast, Monero faces challenges, including potential delistings, despite its strong reputation among privacy advocates. Unlike Zcash, Monero does not have an ETF product to support its market presence. The current stagnation of Bitcoin, which is trading below its October 2025 peak, highlights the contrasting dynamics within the cryptocurrency market, particularly the structural advantages that regulated products like ETFs can provide to certain assets.
