Winklevoss Files for Spot Zcash ETF with US SEC
Winklevoss Asset Services, LLC, founded by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, has submitted a Form S-1 registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 6, 2026, seeking approval for a new exchange-traded fund (ETF) focused on Zcash. The proposed Winklevoss Zcash ETF aims to hold ZEC, the native cryptocurrency of the Zcash network, directly, and is expected to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol WINK if approved.
This ETF is designed as a spot product, meaning it will own actual ZEC rather than relying on futures contracts or other derivatives. The filing outlines a cash-create and cash-redeem model for authorized participants, allowing them to exchange cash for new shares, while the fund itself will manage the acquisition of the underlying ZEC. Custody of the assets will be handled by Gemini Trust Company, LLC, the Winklevoss twins' own cryptocurrency firm, which has provided custody support for ZEC since 2018.
The filing comes in the wake of Grayscale's recent launch of its own Zcash ETF, ticker ZCSH, on NYSE Arca on August 25, 2026. Grayscale's fund quickly attracted over $500 million in assets under management within two weeks of its launch, charging a management fee of 2.5%. The Winklevoss filing does not currently specify a competing fee, but it positions them to challenge Grayscale's early lead in the Zcash ETF market.
