Starknet Launches Version 0.14.4 on Mainnet with Enhanced Proofs and Gas Adjustments
Starknet, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, has officially launched version 0.14.4 on its mainnet as of October 5, 2026. This upgrade focuses on scalability, allowing developers to prove block-sized computations in a single transaction. The release also includes minor adjustments to gas pricing and mandates that node operators update their software to maintain compatibility with the new system.
The centerpiece of this update is an expansion of the Starknet Improvement Proposal 36 (SNIP-36), which enables developers to execute compute-heavy logic off-chain and submit the results as a single proven transaction. This change significantly increases the capacity for proofs, allowing them to reach up to 1.1 billion Layer 2 gas, equivalent to a full Starknet block. Additionally, the gas weights for various operations have been slightly adjusted to better reflect the economic costs incurred by the network.
Node operators are particularly affected by this update, as they must now run either Pathfinder version 0.24.0 or Juno version 0.16.6 to continue operating on the upgraded network. The previous version's proofs will be rejected by the new verifier, necessitating immediate updates. Furthermore, legacy feeder gateway endpoints have been deprecated, requiring applications that rely on them to migrate to new solutions. This release is part of Starknet's broader multi-year roadmap aimed at enhancing performance, refining fee structures, and advancing decentralization.
