Circle Promotes USDC as Preferred Currency for AI Agents
Circle's Chief Commercial Officer, Kash Razzaghi, recently highlighted the growing role of autonomous software agents as a new customer segment that predominantly utilizes USDC, a stablecoin issued by Circle. During an appearance on the NYSE/ICE House Podcast on October 12, 2026, Razzaghi emphasized that these AI agents favor USDC due to its programmability, low transaction costs, and 24/7 availability, which align with their operational needs.
As of mid-October 2026, Circle reported that USDC accounted for 99-99.8% of the transaction value on the x402 protocol, a payment standard tailored for these AI-driven transactions. The company noted that it has facilitated approximately 165 million transactions involving around 80,000 agents, indicating a significant uptake of USDC in this emerging market.
Circle's recent launch of the Agent Stack, a suite of tools designed for AI agents, includes features such as Agent Wallets, an Agent Marketplace, and nanopayments, which enable efficient machine-to-machine commerce. Razzaghi's comments suggest that Circle aims to position USDC as the default settlement asset within what it terms the 'agentic economy,' although the concentration of transaction value on a single stablecoin raises questions about market diversity.
