Coinbase Tokenized Stocks Now Accepted as Collateral for USDC Loans on Aave
Coinbase has introduced tokenized versions of seven major U.S. stocks as collateral for borrowing USDC on Aave V4, a decentralized finance platform. This new feature, available to eligible non-U.S. users, allows them to leverage on-chain representations of traditional equities, including stocks from Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla.
The newly launched Equities Hub enables users to deposit these tokenized stocks as collateral to borrow USDC. However, the stocks themselves cannot be borrowed or used to create equity-against-equity positions at this time. The initial market has a collateral cap of approximately $29 million across the seven assets, with a USDC supply cap of $32 million and a borrowing cap of $21 million, as reported by Aave's risk provider, LlamaRisk.
Aave's unique Hub and Spoke architecture integrates these equities into a single market, allowing users to utilize multiple tokenized stocks as collateral while maintaining distinct risk parameters for each asset. The on-chain pricing for these stocks is provided by Chainlink through its tokenized equity feeds, which operate from Sunday evening to Friday evening U.S. Eastern Time. Aave has indicated that more Coinbase tokenized stocks may be added in the future, pending governance and risk assessments.
