Korea Electric Power Corporation Seeks 250 Trillion Won Prepayment from Samsung and SK Hynix

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is in discussions with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix regarding a substantial prepayment plan for electricity fees, aimed at financing the power grid necessary for a new semiconductor industry cluster. The proposed arrangement involves Samsung Electronics committing to a prepayment of 200 trillion won, while SK Hynix is expected to contribute 50 trillion won, bringing the total to 250 trillion won, which is projected to cover electricity costs for the next five years.

KEPCO stated that this large-scale prepayment system is designed to address the urgent needs of companies looking to expand their power infrastructure, while also providing KEPCO with essential investment funds. The specifics of the prepayment amounts and the duration of coverage are still under negotiation and have not yet been finalized.
