MediaMarkt pulls all Ledger products as multiple suspected device-tampering incidents raise security concerns

PANews, October 13 — MediaMarktSaturn, the parent company of European electronics retailer MediaMarkt, has pulled Ledger's entire product line from its stores and online platform, saying it is in contact with the hardware wallet maker and that it takes the matter very seriously.

X user Johannes said he found unauthorized cables and cellular modules in two Ledger wallets purchased from two different MediaMarkt stores. Ledger said such implants could exfiltrate a user's recovery phrase over a cellular network, and that it is investigating reports beyond CryptoBilis.

Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès also said the Ledger Flex he bought at a Singapore airport contained a spy implant. In response, Ledger said users should refer to the latest CryptoBilis investigation update, but did not directly respond to the Singapore case, nor confirm whether tampered devices exist in Europe.
