Microsoft AI Launches MAI-Transcribe-2 with Significant Price Reduction
Microsoft AI has introduced MAI-Transcribe-2, a new speech-recognition model that costs just 10 cents per hour of audio, marking a 72% reduction from its predecessor, MAI-Transcribe-1, which was priced at $0.36 per hour. This substantial price cut aims to make transcription technology more accessible for enterprises, significantly lowering costs for businesses that process large volumes of audio. For instance, a company handling 100,000 hours of call-center audio annually would see its annual transcription expenses drop from $36,000 to $10,000.
In addition to its competitive pricing, MAI-Transcribe-2 is designed to be faster and more accurate than previous models. MAI-Transcribe-1.5 already transcribed audio in under 15 seconds per hour, a speed that was five times faster than some competitors. Microsoft claims that the new model improves upon this speed while also enhancing accuracy, positioning itself as a strong alternative to offerings from OpenAI, Google, and ElevenLabs.
The launch of MAI-Transcribe-2 is part of a broader strategy by Microsoft AI, led by CEO Mustafa Suleyman, to dominate the multimodal technology space. The MAI models are integrated into various Microsoft products, including Copilot, Teams, GitHub, and Dynamics 365 Contact Centre, facilitating applications such as call-center transcription and accessibility tools. This integration aims to streamline enterprise workflows and enhance productivity.
